In Brooklyn, half the paycheck is going to the landlord.
From Bensonhurst to Williamsburg, 30% of Brooklynites are spending more than half of their income on the almighty rent check, a new study shows. More than 167,000 Brooklyn renters paid much more in 2006 than what financial experts typically recommend spending on rent: 30% of annual income. “If New York City is going to continue as the middle-class capital of the world, then we need to have places where middle-class families can afford to live,” said Rep.
