Half Moon K Bought by OU!

“It was an official statement this past shabbos: The Orthodox Union has bought out the” half moon K” aka “Koaoa“. At this point any products that are not kosher have already been dropped for Koaoa and are certified as kosher by OU standards. This is pretty big news for many since items like Campbells Soup (vegetarian vegetable only) and Mrs. T Perogies are up for grabs.”

  • Where did you get this misinformation? If the KOAOA was now “certified kosher by OU standards” the products would bear an OU. What actually happened is that Rabbi Sharfman was niftar, and those who took over in his place are trying to improve the heksher. This leaves us with some “half-moon K” products being acceptable, and others being unacceptable, which is a worse situation than before. If the KOAOA wants to become a legitimate kashrus supervision agency, they need to (amongst many other things) use an entirely different symbol.

  • It’s true!
