TORRINGTON - The 12th Annual Klezmer on the Hills featured Grammy nominee Andy Statman and his band playing a rousing blend of music. Statman, a mandolin and clarinet player, thinks of his works as “a spontaneous American-roots form of very personal, prayerful Hasidic music, by way of avant-garde jazz,” he says on his Web site. With the metal on the instruments shining under the stage lights, Statman, his drummer and bassist played a variety of music from fast-paced to slower and more melodious. The audience danced in their chairs, tapped their feet and clapped in tune. Shturem.net
